THE PURPOSE OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT The purpose of Descriptive Text is to describe and reveal a particular person, place or thing. GENERIC STRUCTURE OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT • Identification. The initial paragraph contains an explanation of a person, place, animal or object will be described. • Description. contains further elaboration of the topics discussed. PROCEDURE TEXT to explain how something is made, done or used through a sequence of steps (to show how something is made/used/done through a sequence of steps). LANGUAGE FEATURES OF PROCEDURE TEXT - Using the simple present tense - Using imperative sentences (command sentences). Example: add two spoons, cook with low heat, blend the spices, etc. - Use action verbs. Example: add, put, turn. - Using numbers.
